Sultan Qaboos Port
The Sultanate celebrated its first port inauguration in November,1974, known as Sultan Qaboos port. It was established to be the first commercial port for importing and exporting services. This port attracted a big share of the various cargos as well been a key contributor in the modern development in the Sultanate.
The port got a space measured (26,7) km2 and it includes 13 berths of depths varying between 4 to 13 meters and in total the length of berths is 2592 meters.
Sultan Qaboos port witnessed a series of expansion since its establishment in order to keep pace with the increasing maritime trade requirements, and so, some specialized berths were transformed into multi-purpose berths. A building for receiving tourists and travelers also been established in 2008 as a major addition to keep pace with the developing tourism vessels activities.
In continuation to the implementation of His Majesty guidance of 2011 to transform Sultan Qaboos port into a tourism port as well shifting the commercial activities to Sohar industrial port. The ministry took great efforts to implement the this guidance thus all commercial activities were transferred in 31st August 2014 as it includes handling Roro, container, general goods ,vehicles carriers and projects supplies vessels in Sultan Qaboos port. It Stated as well 4 months evacuation of supplies and containers stored in port bays and storage after the shifting period, until 31st December 2014.
