Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Launches the Space Accelerators Program
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has officially launched the “Space Accelerators Program” — a strategic initiative aimed at empowering local startups to develop space-related solutions and services, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the space sector, and creating an enabling environment for investment in advanced technologies.
This program forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to implement the national space sector policy and executive program, particularly in relation to economic diversification and the development of national capabilities to transfer, localize, and deliver space technologies and services through Omani institutions.
The program will run for one year and will be implemented by Phoenix Space and Technology Company in collaboration with Exotopic, a UK-based company specialized in accelerator programs.
The initiative targets the qualification of ten local space startups, supporting them in developing prototypes or commercially viable technological solutions, enhancing national skills in space innovation, and establishing a robust local and international support network for entrepreneurship in the space sector.
Dr. Saud bin Humaid Al Shuailee, Director General of Policies and Governance and Head of the National Space Program at the Ministry, stated:
“This project represents a national program dedicated to accelerating the growth of local startups in the space sector by enabling them to develop commercially viable space services and solutions. It offers a comprehensive ecosystem that includes technical mentorship, entrepreneurial training, and access to a wide network of partners and experts — all contributing to the establishment of a national business environment focused on high-value space industries and innovation.”
He added that the program will create a competitive environment that encourages the development of innovative solutions. The top three startups will receive incentive awards to support the creation of sustainable ventures aligned with the strategic direction of the sector.
The program will focus on several strategic areas within the space industry, such as satellite communications, earth observation and monitoring, geospatial analytics, and navigation technologies. It will also explore the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as advanced computing solutions. In addition, the program emphasizes data storage and management, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, spacecraft simulation environments, and the acceleration of startups. Furthermore, it aims to foster innovation and support the development and adoption of emerging space technologies.
