Public Consultation to Select the Name for the National EV Charging Application
Overview:
This consultation is part of the efforts by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with Net Zero Office and Communication and Media Department, to engage the public in shaping the identity of the national unified application for electric vehicle charging in Oman.
The application will unify all EV charging operators in the Sultanate under one platform, overseen by the Ministry, representing a strategic step toward enhancing user experience and accelerating the transition to green mobility.
The consultation aims to gather public feedback on the most suitable name for the application—either by selecting from a list of proposed names or by submitting new suggestions that reflect user aspirations and national sustainability goals.
Objectives of the Consultation:
• Engage the public in the decision-making process related to naming the application, in the spirit of transparency.
• Build a shared national identity that reflects Oman’s ambitions for sustainable transportation.
• Raise awareness about the transition to electric vehicles and related technologies.
• Assess the current level of EV adoption to support future service improvements.
Consultation Period: July 31 to August 9, 2025
Consultation Results: A total of 144 participants took part in the consultation to select the most suitable name for the national unified application for electric vehicle charging in the Sultanate of Oman. The results showed a preference for several proposed names, while participants also suggested alternative names with environmental, technological, and cultural connotations.
Based on these results, the name “شــاحن –SHAHAIN” has been selected as the official name of the national unified application for electric vehicle charging in the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting a national identity linked to energy and sustainable mobility. The visual identity of the application will be launched and announced soon.
